Commercial Developments in Geologic Hydrogen—and Its Applicability for California

AGH PERSPECTIVE IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Bringing AGH’s GeoH₂ Perspective to California

Dr. Miller opened the program with a comprehensive overview of the geologic hydrogen field, bringing AGH’s perspective to a California audience of policymakers, developers, investors, and clean-energy stakeholders.

His keynote addressed the technical and resource potential of geologic hydrogen, the state of commercial development globally, the emerging federal and state policy landscape, as well as regulatory and permitting strategies; along with next steps needed to move GeoH₂ toward scale.

Dr. Hosford Scheirer, a member of the AGH Advisory Board and Managing Director of Stanford’s Geologic Hydrogen Industrial Affiliates Program, also participated on the webinar as an Expert Panelist. She offered additional perspectives from the development of the emerging geologic hydrogen sector, including current California projects.

Together, Drs. Miller and Hosford Scheirer are bringing AGH leadership and expertise into a broader discussion of GeoH₂ opportunities, commercialization, policy, and deployment in California.

KEYNOTE FOCUS

What Eric Miller Covered

01

Resource & Technical Potential

The scientific basis, resource opportunity, and technical pathways for geologic hydrogen.

02

Commercial Development

How early commercial programs and pilot projects are advancing around the world.

03

Policy & Permitting

The emerging federal and state policy landscape and the permitting pathways required for deployment.

04

Pathways to Scale

What states, industry, and the research community can do next to move GeoH₂ from opportunity to implementation.

A BROADER INDUSTRY CONVERSATION

From Science to Commercialization

Following Miller’s keynote, the webinar brought together commercial developers, technology innovators, and researchers to discuss the opportunities and challenges of GeoH₂ in California.

Panelists included Neil Evans of FEX, Katie O’Shea of GeoKiln Energy Innovation, Paul Sandhu of ProtonH2, and Dr. Hosford Scheirer of Stanford’s Geologic Hydrogen Industrial Affiliates Program. Janice Lin of the Green Hydrogen Coalition moderated the discussion.

THE CALIFORNIA QUESTION

Can geologic hydrogen become a viable resource for California as the state pursues clean hydrogen, industrial decarbonization, and clean-fuels goals?

This webinar is designed to move that question from concept toward practical discussion of resources, markets, policy, permitting, and deployment.
