Dr Bill Heins is Getech’s Chief Geoscientist; Getech applies world-leading geoscience data and unique geospatial software products to locate the subsurface resources that are vital for energy security and a sustainable transition. Bill ensures Getech geoscience capabilities evolve to meet client needs, guides the application of Getech data and skills to bespoke client projects, and assures the quality of delivered projects. In the hydrogen space, Bill has overseen Getech collaborations with academic partners in North America and Europe since 2021, developed Getech’s internal hydrogen exploration workflows and risking algorithms, and assured the quality of Getech exploration projects in North America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Bill serves on the Advisory Board of the Association of Geological Hydrogen (AGH).
Over the last 40 years Bill has consulted on strategy for Fortune 500 technology companies with the Strategic Management Group of Philadelphia; taught geology as a professor at Vassar College and Lewis-Clark State College; advised geology graduate students in North America, Europe, and Australia; explored for oil and gas on six continents with ExxonMobil; and written the evening English newscast for China Central Television in Beijing.
Bill has a degree in Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a PhD in Geology from UCLA. He is the author of over 100 technical contributions in geology, environmental science, and management, and is a globally recognized expert in sediment generation and reservoir quality analysis as one of the founding faculty of the School on Sandstone Diagenesis, organized by the Geozentrum Nordbayern.
